Emmett Club History

The Kiwanis Club of Emmett, Idaho, was chartered on March 7, 1941. The Club celebrated its 75th Anniversary on March 16, 2016, with a dinner at the Gem County Fairgrounds. Click HERE for the 1940's Emmett Messenger Index article on the origin of the Emmett Kiwanis Club. Thank you to Diana Baird for providing us this article from the Messenger Index archives.

Kiwanis Club of Emmett is very involved with the community and with the children in all of Gem County. Some of the many projects sponsored by or assisted by Emmett Kiwanis Club include the East Egg Hunt, Wings & Wheels, Magic on Main, Emmett Cherry Festival Fun Run/Walk, Emmett Cherry Festival Pancake Breakfast, Ola Bike Rodeo & BBQ, as well as many other events, several of which are done in direct participation with the Patriot Center and the youth it helps.

Kiwanis International History

Kiwanis International was founded in 1915 in Detroit, Michigan, and became an international organization with the creation of the Kiwanis Club of Hamilton, Ontario, the following year. In 2015, Kiwanis celebrated its 100th anniversary.

In the early years, members focused on business networking but in 1919, the organization changed its focus to service. In the 1960s, worldwide expansion was approved and within the decade, Kiwanis International formed, representing Kiwanians in 11 European nations. In 1987, women officially were allowed into the membership.
